RGK Wheelchair Basketball Regional Junior Festival

Over 30 young people from across Scotland gathered at Dundee International Sports Centre for the annual ‘RGK Regional Junior Festival’ of wheelchair basketball. The event provided a fantastic opportunity for players to showcase their skills on court in front of coaches from Scotland’s National Academy - and the coaches were suitably impressed!

The day also offered plenty of opportunities for players to socialise and connect with others from different regions. For many new to the game, this was their first experience of competitive wheelchair basketball. More experienced players had the chance to take on coaching and officiating roles, contributing to their all-round development within the sport.

Amy Smith, Player-Coach of West Red and MVP of the U18s competition, was delighted with her team’s achievement:

“It was an opportunity for me to take on more of a leadership role and play with a few people I hadn’t played with much before, which was interesting – seeing their skills develop.”

The annual event was supported by Regional Managers from Scottish Disability Sport and funded by RGK Wheelchairs. Shaun Gash MBE, RGK’s International Sports Specialist, commented:

“It was an absolute pleasure to represent RGK at the ‘RGK Scotland Regional Junior Festival’, and what a day it was! Filled with smiles, laughter, and competitive wheelchair basketball from every young person who attended.

To see families supporting, and young players putting into practice the skills and drills their coaches have been working on, paved the way for the next generation of talent in Scotland.
