Welcome to the world’s fastest-growing urban team sport. 3x3 is fast, exciting, and simple enough to be played almost anywhere by anybody!

Whether you are shooting hoops with friends at your local outdoor court or aspiring to wear the Scotland jersey on the international stage, getting involved in 3x3 couldn't be easier. All you need is one hoop, a half-court, and six players.

What Makes 3x3 Different?

If you love 5v5 basketball, you will love 3x3. Because of the smaller court and quick shot clock, the game guarantees more touches of the ball, more rapid decision-making, and non-stop opportunities to score. It’s an incredible tool for developing your skills—but most importantly, it’s a lot of fun.

Your First Step: Create a FIBA 3x3 Profile

Want to track your progress and see where you rank in Scotland and across the world? Your very first step is to claim your digital FIBA 3x3 Profile. It takes less than two minutes to set up, and it's completely free. Once you have a profile, you will automatically earn official FIBA ranking points every time you play in a registered 3x3 event.  Even better: every point you earn personally also helps boost Scotland’s overall country ranking on the global stage!

Organising Your Own 3x3 Event?

Are you a club, school, or community group looking to host a tournament? Because 3x3 requires less space and fewer official rules to manage, running an event is incredibly straightforward. You can use FIBA’s free digital 3x3 Event Maker platform to handle your brackets, schedules, and player points automatically. If you are planning an event in Scotland, let us know here!

Equipment

You don’t need much to run a 3x3 event but here are some ideas to get you started:

  • The Ball: 3x3 uses a unique, dedicated size 6 ball that has the weight of a standard size 7 ball. This ensures optimal control and speed in windy outdoor conditions - https://www.wilson.com/en-gb/search?q=3x3 Affiliated clubs receive a 40% off Wilson discount code as part of their affiliation
  • One Hoop: A standard, sturdy basket. Portable standalone hoops work perfectly for outdoor car parks or public spaces.
  • Court Markings: A standard half-court layout. If your court doesn’t have lines, you can use outdoor court tape or chalk to mark the arc (the 2-point line), the key, and the free-throw line.
  • Scoreboard & Flipcharts: A visible way for players and spectators to see the running score and team fouls.
  • 12-Second Shot Clock: Because the game moves so fast, you need a way to track the 12-second shot clock. A digital clock is ideal, but a stopwatch operated by a table official works for grassroots tournaments.
