3x3 Academy
basketballscotland is excited to announce the launch of the 3x3 Academy, providing young athletes with the opportunity to represent Scotland in the fast-paced and ever-growing 3x3 basketball format.
3x3 basketball is a dynamic and fast-paced format that significantly enhances a player's overall ability, making it an ideal tool for player development. The programme will focus on key areas that translate directly to success in both 3x3 and 5v5 basketball, and offer the players the chance to represent Scotland and compete at a 3x3 Home Nations Tournament. With 3x3 basketball gaining global popularity—especially ahead of the Commonwealth Games next year—this programme will help develop Scotland’s future talent in the format.
Why Join the 3x3 Academy?
Our athletes will learn to become quick, 0.5-second decision-makers, develop the ability to create and exploit mismatches, and gain confidence in hitting contested shots both off the dribble and the catch.
A unique aspect of 3x3 basketball is that coaches must remain in the crowd during games, unable to intervene. This creates an incredible opportunity for players to develop leadership skills, communicate effectively, and make high-pressure decisions as a team.
By training in this format, we’re not just improving individual skills, we’re building smarter, more adaptable, and more confident basketball players ready to compete at the highest level.
Who Can Apply?
The 3x3 Academy is open to U16 and U18 players who are not currently involved in the U14, U15, or U17 5v5 Regional Academies.
